Minneapolis Crime Surge: How Walz and Frey Failed Their Police Force

Minneapolis has lost over 300 police officers since the George Floyd riots, and Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey are to blame. The city’s police force crashed from 920 officers in 2019 to just 583 officers this past March, a devastating 37% drop that has left Minneapolis dangerously understaffed. This is what happens when liberal politicians bow to the radical left’s demands to destroy law enforcement.

The numbers tell a shocking story of failed leadership. Minneapolis is required by law to have at least 713 officers, but the city has been breaking its own rules since 2021. Last year hit rock bottom with just 560 officers, the lowest staffing in over 40 years. While criminals run wild, Walz and Frey watched their police force collapse.

The anti-cop policies pushed by these Democrats have made Minneapolis streets unsafe for families. Traffic enforcement has practically disappeared, with officers making 82% fewer traffic stops than before the pandemic. When police can’t even pull over speeding drivers, how can they protect our neighborhoods from real crime?

Walz stood by and did nothing while Minneapolis burned in 2020. He let rioters destroy the city and then supported the defund movement that drove good cops away. His weak leadership sent a clear message that Minnesota doesn’t support police officers who risk their lives to keep us safe.

Mayor Frey talks a big game now, but his damage is done. He caved to left-wing pressure groups and watched hundreds of experienced officers flee to other departments. These officers took years of training and knowledge with them, leaving Minneapolis residents vulnerable to criminals who know police are spread thin.

The so-called recovery is too little, too late. Minneapolis recently celebrated reaching 600 officers for the first time since 2023, but they’re still more than 100 officers short of what the law requires. Meanwhile, crime continues to plague neighborhoods while politicians pat themselves on the back for tiny improvements.

This staffing crisis isn’t an accident or natural disaster. It’s the direct result of liberal politicians choosing criminals over cops and chaos over order. Walz and Frey created this mess with their anti-police rhetoric and policies that tell officers they’re not wanted or respected.

Hard-working Americans deserve leaders who back the blue, not politicians who cave to radical activists. Until Minnesota voters hold Walz and Frey accountable for this public safety disaster, families will continue paying the price for their failed leadership. Our police officers deserve better, and so do the people they swore to protect.
