MSNBC Hits Record Lows as Viewers Reject Partisan Rhetoric

In a shocking turn of events that should leave MSNBC executives sweating bullets, three of their top shows have sunk to historic viewership lows during what is supposed to be a bustling holiday news cycle. While most networks would do backflips over record-setting viewership, MSNBC appears to be throwing themselves a pity party instead.

Alex Wagner, taking a rain check on Rachel Maddow’s usual Monday mind splitting, could only rustle up a measly average of 595,000 viewers. Meanwhile, the former mouthpiece for President Biden, Jen Psaki, apparently did her best to outshine Wagner with an even more dismal showing of 651,000 viewers. And as if that weren’t enough to induce a facepalm, Lawrence O’Donnell scraped together a paltry 61,000 viewers from the lucrative 25-54 demographic. O’Donnell did manage a minor uptick in raw numbers, but that was like pouring a shot of whiskey into a sinking ship.

The numbers reveal that all three of these personalities have hit lows not seen since their shows premiered. If those figures don’t scream “crisis,” they might as well take a banner out to Times Square. And while all this comes as a crushing blow to the network, the real head-scratcher is the plummeting viewership of Rachel Maddow, who has reportedly lost a staggering 43 percent of her audience since Donald Trump’s election victory. Clearly, America is tuning out the anti-Trump droning, and viewers have decided they’d rather watch paint dry.

MSNBC’s love affair with leftist rhetoric hasn’t done them any favors either. The network has been the epicenter of anti-Trump sentiment, likening the former president to the Ku Klux Klan right before a presidential debate. This overtly partisan approach has turned viewers off in droves, as it becomes painfully clear that MSNBC has created a safe space for far-left politics while ignoring alternative perspectives. Even CNN has stepped back from the ledge recently, giving a conservative voice, Scott Jennings, some airtime. Meanwhile, MSNBC seems stuck in a macabre echo chamber, with no counterpoints to balance their extreme views.

Adding to their woes, the network’s credibility has taken a hit from various scandals—including one involving Al Sharpton, who was paid by Kamala Harris’s campaign for a fawning interview. Scandals like this clip away at any remaining trust viewers might harbor for MSNBC—all while they desperately attempt to cling to their ideological stronghold. If the ratings are any indication, Americans are looking for a news source that reflects a broader spectrum of opinions rather than the cartoonish caricatures presented daily by the likes of Joy Reid and “Morning Joe.”

In a time when viewers crave clarity, balance, and, let’s face it, a touch of honesty, it’s no wonder that these ratings are in free fall. As viewers opt for alternatives that deliver balanced reporting, MSNBC might want to reassess whether their brand of far-left hysteria is really what the audience desires. If the numbers are any indication, a reckoning is on the horizon, and it might not be pretty.
