Nate Silver has managed to get himself into hot water once again, and this time it’s thanks to his opinions on President Joe Biden’s recent pardon of none other than Hunter Biden. Known for his uncanny ability to upset fans on both ends of the political spectrum, Silver has stirred the pot by openly criticizing the President, calling him selfish and senile. It’s as though he handed liberals a beehive and dared them not to poke it – while somehow aggravating conservatives in the process.
In a classic display of political manhandling, Silver went on to declare that no Democrat should be trusted in 2028 unless they express their outrage over what he deems a shameless, sweeping pardon for all of Hunter’s alleged misdeeds from 2014 to 2024. The generous forgiveness granted by Joe Biden not only makes the Democrats look foolish (which isn’t particularly hard), but it also yanks the rug out from under supporters who thought they could rest easy after Biden’s earlier assertions that he would not grant pardons to his son.
For those who haven’t been living under a rock, the Hunter Biden saga isn’t exactly a secret. With allegations swirling around the Biden family like a tornado of scandal, Silver’s critical remarks aren’t surprising. In many ways, he’s simply stating what the GOP has been hollering from the rooftops for years. The double standard perpetuated by the left—who prance around offering judgments on Trump while giving their own candidates a free pass—is quickly coming back to haunt them. The entire debacle mirrors the myth of Icarus, as Democrats fly a little too close to the sun thinking they’re above reproach, only to find themselves melting in a puddle of hypocrisy.
Nate Silver Goes Scorched Earth on Joe Biden Over the Hunter Pardon

One point that can’t be overlooked is the absolute irony of Biden’s actions. The President laments politicization in the justice system as he makes a choice that reeks of political favoritism. By using the pardon power to shield his son from accountability, Biden has effectively discredited any claims his party has had about “following the law.” It’s as if the Democrats have been caught red-handed with their hand in the cookie jar, and instead of confessing, they simply decided to eat the cookies and mumble about fairness.
At the end of the day, this pardon could easily be a double-edged sword. With each faux pas from Biden and his administration, the Republican Party’s case for reclaiming control only strengthens. When Trump pardons the January 6 defendants, the left’s compliant outrage is sure to look foolish. Thus, while Silver’s predictions may not be the nail in the coffin for Democrats in the upcoming elections, they form a compelling argument for the right’s continued scrutiny of the left’s ethical boundaries—or lack thereof.
