Netflix Co-Founder Urges Biden to Step Aside for Stronger 2024 Candidate

Reed Hastings, the Democratic mega-donor and co-founder of Netflix, has made waves by calling for President Joe Biden to “step aside” following his lackluster performance in the recent presidential debate. Hastings, known for his hefty donations to Democrat causes, expressed a desire for a more “vigorous” candidate to take on Trump and lead the country to safety and prosperity.

The plea from Hastings comes in the wake of growing concerns within the Democratic Party about Biden’s ability to secure another term in office. With fears mounting over Biden’s debate display, various party officials, donors, voters, and media personalities are beginning to question his viability as a candidate in the upcoming election.

As Hastings voiced his call for Biden to step down, reports have surfaced of Hollywood donors issuing ultimatums for the President to “drop out” or face a halt in financial backing. Some donors have even paused their contributions, feeling slighted by the Biden campaign’s assertion of victory in the debate.

Hastings and his wife, Patty Quillin, have been significant financial supporters of the Democratic Party, having contributed millions of dollars over the years to various party initiatives. Their generosity extends to super PACs aimed at aiding Democratic candidates at the national level, including substantial support for Biden during his 2020 and potential 2024 presidential campaigns.

In response to the growing unease surrounding Biden’s candidacy, the President and Vice President Kamala Harris are reportedly engaging with Democratic governors to assess the situation. With prominent figures like Governor Gavin Newsom of California and others in attendance, the meetings aim to address concerns within the party and chart a path forward.

While some Democrats, including former President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, continue to stand by Biden, voices like Congressman Lloyd Doggett and Representative Raul Grijalva have publicly suggested that Biden should consider stepping back from the race. The Democratic Party finds itself at a critical juncture, grappling with internal division over the future of Biden’s leadership.
