In the wake of the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, a documentary titled “Screams Before Silence” has been released, featuring the testimonies of Israeli survivors. The survivors, including former hostages, first responders, and witnesses, recount their horrifying experiences at the hands of Hamas militants. The film, sponsored by former Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg, sheds light on the traumatic events that unfolded during the attack.

One survivor, Agam Goldstein-Almog, who was held captive by Hamas for about seven weeks, bravely shares her story in the documentary. She details the sexual and physical abuse suffered by roughly half of the hostages. Another survivor, Amit Soussana, recounts being sexually assaulted at gunpoint while in captivity. The documentary aims to bring attention to the atrocities committed and to give a voice to the survivors who have endured unimaginable suffering.
Despite the harrowing testimonies, there have been doubters regarding the claims of sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas during the attacks. However, the documentary seeks to dispel any skepticism and shed light on the brutal reality faced by the survivors. It also highlights the ongoing efforts to secure the release of approximately 130 people still held by Hamas or other terrorist groups in Gaza.
Furthermore, a United Nations report has corroborated the survivors’ accounts, documenting instances of rape, sexualized torture, and inhumane treatment. The report emphasizes the urgent need to address these heinous violations of human rights and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The documentary also features accounts from witnesses at the Nova music festival, where Hamas militants carried out a deadly assault, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of victims. Survivors recount the chaos and terror they experienced, including witnessing sexual violence and relentless gunfire during the attack.
The release of “Screams Before Silence” serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of the survivors, while also exposing the brutal actions of Hamas and other militant groups. It is a call to action for the international community to stand against such atrocities and work towards ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected by these tragic events.
