It's not unexpected for a judge appointed by President Obama to attempt to keep former President Donald Trump off the presidential ballot in Nevada. However, Judge Gloria M. Navarro dismissed the suit, recognizing it as a feeble attempt by John Anthony Castro to use the 14th Amendment to bar Trump from the ballot. The court rightfully called out Castro's lack of standing and contrived injury, seeing through what seemed to be a political stunt.
Castro's attempt to create standing by declaring himself a candidate and paying the filing fee to challenge Trump's eligibility appeared more like political theater than a genuine legal concern. The court appropriately highlighted that Castro and Trump were not even competing in the same arena, with Castro running in the Nevada Republican Party's primary while Trump was participating in a GOP caucus, not the primary. Thus, the court lacked jurisdiction to rule on the merits of the case.
