Ohio Senator Brown Risks Reelection by Aligning with Unpopular Biden

Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, who is running for reelection against Republican nominee Bernie Moreno, has been closely aligning himself with President Joe Biden and his policies. This may not be a smart move, as Ohio has been leaning more towards conservative views, and President Biden is not very popular among the people there.

During a podcast interview with WKYC’s Stephanie Haney just before Biden’s inauguration in January 2021, Brown expressed that he and Biden shared similar political views. He also mentioned that people would come to appreciate Biden’s efforts to help the nation. Records show that Brown voted with Biden’s position 98.5 percent of the time during the 117th Session of Congress.

Despite Brown’s optimism about Biden’s popularity in Ohio, recent data suggests otherwise. According to Civiqs, only 32 percent of Ohio voters approve of Biden’s job performance as president, which is lower than his overall approval rating. This doesn’t bode well for Brown, who has been closely aligning himself with Biden.

In response to Brown’s alignment with Biden, Moreno’s campaign has criticized the senator for supporting Biden’s “disastrous leftwing agenda,” citing issues such as inflation, energy policies, and immigration. The Moreno campaign has emphasized that Brown’s voting record shows overwhelming support for Biden’s policies.

The Senate race between Brown and Moreno is crucial as it could impact which party controls the U.S. Senate. Republicans are optimistic about their chances in the 2024 Senate map, and Brown has been identified as one of the most vulnerable Democratic senators in this election cycle. As such, Brown’s close association with Biden may pose a challenge for his reelection campaign.
