Last night’s Golden Globes ended with a clear winner and a not-so-winning team. The movie “Barbie,” which was expected to rack up the awards, only managed to snag two wins, while “Oppenheimer” waltzed away with five golden trophies, including the coveted best motion picture for a drama. Ouch, Barbie, that’s gotta sting!
Barbie, the highest-grossing film of 2023, raked in a whopping $636 million in North America and a jaw-dropping $1.4 billion worldwide. Oppenheimer, which was released on the same day, didn’t let Barbie have all the spotlight, earning over $326 million domestically and nearly $1 billion globally. Talk about a golden ticket for Oppenheimer!
The way #Barbie is getting snubbed at the #GoldenGlobes tonight is insane.

Part of Barbie’s letdown might be attributed to the comedy film “Poor Things” swooping in and snagging awards that Barbie was eyeing, including best motion picture for a musical or comedy. Even Emma Stone, the leading lady of “Poor Things,” clinched the best actress award over Barbie’s Margot Robbie. It’s like “Poor Things” just swooped in and snatched Barbie’s crown!
As if that weren’t enough, Oppenheimer reeled in awards left and right, leaving Barbie in the dust. Best performance by an actor in a motion picture, best performance by a supporting actor, best director, and best original score all went to Oppenheimer. It’s like a one-two punch right in Barbie’s perfectly coiffed plastic hair!
The Golden Globes also caused a stir over its host, Jo Koy, with many critics saying his performance was a big swing and a miss. Some of his jokes fell flat, and he even had the audacity to tell people to “shut up” if they were expecting a perfect monologue. What a way to win over the crowd, Jo!
One of Koy’s jokes aimed at musician Taylor Swift sparked controversy, suggesting that the Golden Globes had fewer camera shots of her than national football games. Imagine taking a swing at the beloved Taylor Swift in front of the world – talk about a major fumble! And to add insult to injury, Swift’s unimpressed expression said it all. Ouch, Jo, that joke didn’t land at all!
