Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is set to visit Mar-a-Lago after the NATO summit, marking another high-profile meeting with former President Donald Trump. This gathering comes as the two leaders strengthen their alliance, much to the chagrin of current President Joe Biden, who has repeatedly attacked Orban. This visit, Orban’s second this year, highlights his preference for camaraderie with Trump over any engagement with the Biden administration.
In March, Orban bypassed any meeting with the sitting president, opting instead to connect with Trump at Mar-a-Lago. This move did not go unnoticed by Biden, who used it as another excuse to launch verbal tirades against the Hungarian leader. Biden, still clinging to the misguided notion that he is the sole arbiter of democracy, criticized Orban, who has openly declared his skepticism about modern democracy’s effectiveness.

Orban’s endorsement of Trump in this election cycle should surprise no one. The Hungarian Prime Minister praised Trump’s peace-centric tenure, reminding the world that Trump’s administration did not initiate any wars and even took strides toward resolving existing conflicts. Clearly, Orban recognizes what many seem to forget: under Trump, diplomacy triumphed over unnecessary military aggression.
Orban’s conservative stance has made him a lone wolf in Europe, especially regarding the war in Ukraine. His efforts to mediate peace between Russia and Ukraine have only fueled disdain from other European leaders. However, Orban remains unfazed, keeping his focus on seeking a resolution rather than fanning the flames of conflict.
Interestingly, while Orban openly supports Trump, whispers from within NATO suggest that other leaders are quietly bracing for a Trump victory in the upcoming election. Biden’s lackluster debate performances and waning popularity seem to be giving everyone else reason to prepare for a return to Trump-era diplomacy. Orban’s visit to Mar-a-Lago is just another sign that Trump’s influence on the global stage is far from over, much to the delight of conservatives everywhere.
