Pelosi Faces Pushback on MSNBC Over Job Loss Claims During Trump Era

Nancy Pelosi clashed with Katy Tur on MSNBC when the former speaker attempted to push a Democratic talking point about job losses during the Trump administration, and the host interjected with a different viewpoint.

Pelosi praised President Joe Biden’s record, claiming he “created 9 million jobs in his term in office. Donald Trump has the worst record of job loss of any president. So we just have to make sure people know.”

But that statistic has been discredited as it does not account for the impact of the government-imposed shutdowns due to the pandemic. In fact, the devastating effects of the pandemic occurred in the final year of Trump’s term, after three years of a booming economy and low unemployment.

Tur interrupted Pelosi’s statement, noting that the job losses during Trump’s presidency were due to a global pandemic, which caused a net job loss over his four-year term. Pelosi responded by accusing Tur of being an “apologist for Donald Trump,” which the host denied.

Pelosi continued to argue that Democrats had contributed $3 trillion to the economy, claiming it helped stimulate the economy. However, experts have criticized this massive government spending for leading to inflation levels not seen in 40 years.

Under Trump’s administration, the economy was on track for a quick recovery, resulting in a significant drop in the unemployment rate from a pandemic high to a much lower percentage. This successful recovery was due to pro-growth tax policies that encouraged American businesses to invest and create jobs.

It’s important to note that while Pelosi may continue to push her partisan narrative, the reality is that the economy was rebounding before Trump left office. Former President Trump also pointed out that during his first 30 months in office, a record 4.9 million jobs were created, compared to only 2.1 million during Biden’s first 30 months.

Although fact-checkers disputed some of Trump’s numbers, including the claim that the economy actually created 5.2 million non-farm jobs during his first 30 months, the overall point remains that the job creation record under the Biden administration pales in comparison to that of the Trump administration.

This exchange serves as a reminder of the importance of truth, even on a left-leaning network like MSNBC. It’s refreshing to see a host challenge fake talking points and present an alternative viewpoint, even if it upsets Pelosi.

The 2024 election is crucial for every American, and it’s important to support media outlets like The Western Journal that provide a platform for diverse perspectives. Without support from readers, outlets like The Western Journal may struggle to continue fighting for the values that are important to many Americans.
