Pennsylvania’s current election process doesn’t allow for poll workers to start processing ballots until Election Day. This means that counting doesn’t begin until after the polls close, and this can potentially lead to delayed results. A bill was proposed to expand the window for processing ballots up to seven days before the polls open, but it faced opposition from 99 Republican legislators who argued that it would cause unnecessary delays and undermine voters’ trust.
