The latest issuance from the so-called fact-checkers at Politifact has crowned Donald Trump with the dubious honor of “Lie of the Year.” While such an outcome could be predicted by anyone with a modicum of understanding regarding leftist media biases, it sets the stage for a broader examination of their selective outrage. The curious reality is that, amidst a landscape teeming with egregious lies from Democrats, the choice of Trump as the biggest fibber underscores just how deeply entrenched partisanship is within fact-checking circles.
The supposed “lie” that Politifact seized upon relates to claims about immigrants hunting ducks in local parks. The only issue here is that, while Trump’s comments may have sparked discussions, the evidence is far from nonexistent. Residents mentioned encounters at town meetings, and while law enforcement later dismissed these claims as unfounded, it raises the question of whether the initial concerns had any merit at all. Yet, this was deemed the most consequential falsehood of the year—a curious verdict when the fabrications erupting from the left were being constantly glossed over.
We had a President who straight up said for the entire year that he would not pardon his son — Only to pardon him for every crime he may or may not have committed since 2014.
Yet Politifact made their "lie of the year" something that they can't even prove was false. https://t.co/py49I1Bvyj pic.twitter.com/pV3XCaWTho

Cynics might argue that Politifact’s choice is indicative of a desperate attempt to shift focus from the mountain of lies being peddled by the Biden administration. For months, the press paraded the narrative that Biden was in stellar mental condition, persistently describing him as “sharp.” This orchestrated ruse came crashing down during debates, where Biden’s frailty was on full display. Yet, rather than address the dissonance between Biden’s touted capabilities and his actual performance, fact-checkers completely ignored the situation, solidly favoring their narrative.
Then there’s the baffling contradiction regarding Kamala Harris, who has enjoyed a chameleonic rise to prominence without ever being held accountable for her numerous inaccuracies. Claims that she had steadfastly opposed certain policies have been widely repudiated, yet the left operates under a different standard. Instead of addressing these misstatements, fact-checking outfits preferred to reframe the conversation, continuously shielding their favored politicians from legitimate scrutiny.
Meanwhile, significant promises made by Biden himself, particularly concerning his son Hunter, were overlooked entirely. Biden’s pledges not to pardon Hunter for any possible crimes have turned into just another forgotten campaign promise. After dodging accountability through the entirety of 2024, the administration recently reversed course, undermining the integrity of those statements with swift, sweeping pardons. Yet, Politifact’s narrative sails on unscathed, devoid of the discernment needed to recognize these glaring misrepresentations.
In essence, the credibility of fact-checkers like Politifact continues to dwindle as they maintain their selective focus on truth—focusing primarily on targets that align with established narratives while ignoring substantial inaccuracies from the left. This privileged position not only discredits their role in the media landscape but highlights an alarming truth: fact-checkers have evolved into a defense mechanism for the political left. As the situation continues to unfold, one can only anticipate how much deeper their investment in manufactured narratives will dig them into an irreparable credibility crisis.
