Mainstream media outlets love to paint a picture of doom and gloom surrounding Donald Trump’s administration. According to them, he’s on a fast track to fascism, single-handedly derailing democracy while Elon Musk plots to take over the planet. This narrative crumbles under the weight of reality, however, as a fresh CBS/YouGov poll shows that a sizable majority of Americans aren’t buying the media’s hysteria. In fact, they’re quite happy with what the president is doing, even after just 20 days in office.
A moment of delicious irony unfolded on CBS News when Margaret Brennan was forced to reluctantly share the delightfully positive results of the poll. Despite being known for skewering Trump-friendly folks during her interviews, this time she had to deliver news that didn’t align with her often alarmist rhetoric. The discomfort was palpable, a moment that surely didn’t escape the notice of seasoned political observers.

Anthony Salvanto, CBS’s executive director of elections and surveys, provided the kind of clarity that networks like CBS often overlook. He noted that Trump is, in fact, fulfilling the promises he made during the campaign, which a significant 70 percent of respondents acknowledged, regardless of their personal approval of him. This indicates that people recognize the leader’s commitment to his agenda, contrasting sharply with the perennial naysayers in the media.
The approval ratings tell a compelling story of their own, with Trump enjoying a solid overall job approval of 53 percent. While dissenters make up 47 percent, it’s clear that a majority still appreciates his approach. Respondents described Trump with words like “tough” (69 percent), “energetic” (63 percent), “focused” (60 percent), and “effective” (58 percent), providing a refreshing counter-narrative to the scare tactics deployed by the media.
When it comes to key policies, the approval numbers soar even higher. A significant 59 percent of Americans support Trump’s robust immigration policy aimed at deporting illegal immigrants, while an even more commanding 64 percent back his plan to deploy U.S. troops to the border. This public sentiment is a clear rebuke to the mainstream narrative that claims these actions are unpopular or extreme.
Young Americans have also embraced Trump enthusiastically, which flies in the face of the narrative crafted by outlets like MSNBC and CNN. Instead of cowering in fear at the idea of former President Trump and his policies, many perceive a thriving leadership that resonates with their values and concerns. While Brennan and her cohorts might be busy lamenting the state of the nation, the reality is that a healthy portion of the populace sees a different story—one of promise and potential.
