At the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, tensions flared as pro-Palestinian protesters and counter-protesters came together in an unusual display of unity – to express their mutual disdain for President Joe Biden. Both sides were caught on camera chanting some not-so-nice words about old Joe.
President Biden, who seems to be collecting disapproval like it’s going out of style, currently stands at a less-than-impressive 39.5% approval rating. Arab Americans, in particular, are giving him the cold shoulder due to his administration’s decisions regarding foreign aid spending. A whopping $95 billion was sent overseas, with a hefty $26 billion going straight to Israel. And let’s not forget that chunky $61 billion that was shipped off to Ukraine. Oof, Joe, you’re making some enemies there.

To add fuel to the fire, Israel is still in the thick of a heated conflict in Gaza, causing even more folks to shake their heads in disappointment at the Biden team. The protesters at University of Alabama are not just twiddling their thumbs – they’ve got demands. From cutting ties with big defense companies to renaming buildings, they’re making it clear they want change – and they want it now.
The university, trying to keep the peace, laid down some ground rules for the protesters. No weapons, no camping out, no making a ruckus near academic buildings during certain hours – you get the idea. The protesters were also calling for divestment from Israeli companies, an end to academic partnerships with Israel, and, of course, a big ol’ ceasefire in the midst of all the chaos.
This whole debate isn’t a one-college show. Nope, anti-Israel protests are popping up at various universities all over the nation, like weeds in a garden. From Harvard to George Washington University, the protests have spread like wildfire. At Columbia University, things got so heated that students were suspended and protesters were hauled off by the handful.
In the end, it’s a tale as old as time – tensions rise, opinions clash, and everyone’s got something to say about it. As long as Biden’s in the hot seat and conflicts abroad keep brewing, it looks like the protests and chants won’t be dying down anytime soon. Welcome to politics, folks – it’s a wild ride!
