In the red states, one can generally expect a push to adopt policies that align closely with Trump’s agenda, particularly on immigration and school choice. In contrast, blue states are gearing up for a significant showdown, taking to the trenches with legal defenses against any federal overreach.
Among the Republican governors, there’s a palpable energy directed toward enforcing stricter immigration policies. A consortium of 26 Republican governors has pledged their unwavering support to Trump’s plan for cracking down on illegal immigration, stating they are eager to use every tool available, from state enforcement actions to the National Guard. This united front signifies a decisive shift for many states, which are now taking on the roles of enforcers of laws that the federal government has often failed to implement efficiently.

While some are open to collaborating on deportation matters pertaining to criminals, they are far less willing to allow federal authorities to sweep up everyone living illegally in the U.S. In this regard, the California Legislature isn’t waiting for permission to start erecting legal barriers to resist Trump’s policies—clearly signaling that the battle lines are being drawn.
In the realm of education, the enthusiasm for school choice from red states is reaching new heights. The recent electoral victory of conservative candidates is producing a surge of support for expanding educational options, including vouchers. Nearly a dozen states have systems that allow families to tap into government funding for private schooling, including religious institutions—an initiative that could gain even more momentum under Trump’s administration. With conservatives gaining ground in state legislatures, the prospect of more block grants and tax benefits for school choice appears imminent.
Meanwhile, in the field of social issues, GOP-controlled states are flexing their legislative muscles to curb what they see as the excesses of woke culture. There is a rising tide against diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, with states like Florida and North Carolina leading the charge. The vision isn’t merely about dismantling bureaucracies but also about restoring traditional values in schools.
