Menendez’s wife, Nadine Menendez, has also been charged, but her trial date has been postponed due to an illness. The defense attorney for Menendez, Avi Weitzman, countered the prosecution’s claims by portraying Menendez as a patriotic public servant who was simply doing his job. Weitzman also suggested that much of the blame should be shifted to Nadine Menendez, painting her as someone who misled and took advantage of her husband.
