Survey Shows Growing Democrat Doubt About Biden’s Candidacy for 2024

A recent survey by the Economist/YouGov has revealed a surprising lack of confidence in President Joe Biden among a significant portion of Democrats and Democrat-leaning Americans. The survey posed the question of whether Biden should continue as the Democratic nominee or withdraw from the presidential race, and the results were eye-opening. While half of respondents believed Biden should stay in the race, a notable one-third expressed the view that he should withdraw, with the remaining 18 percent remaining undecided.

Delving deeper into the numbers, it was found that a majority of Democrats, 51 percent, supported Biden continuing as the nominee, but a significant 30 percent felt he should drop out. Independents were also divided, with 43 percent in favor of Biden remaining in the race and 41 percent advocating for his withdrawal.

In contrast, when Republicans and Republican-leaning independents were asked about President Donald Trump’s candidacy, the response was overwhelmingly in support of him remaining in the race. An impressive 86 percent of respondents believed Trump should continue running, with just seven percent suggesting he should withdraw. These numbers were echoed in the breakdown among Republicans and independents, showing strong backing for Trump’s reelection bid.

Interestingly, the survey also touched on the impact of Biden staying in the race on Trump’s chances of winning. While the majority of Republicans were unfazed, with 44 percent believing it would make no difference, there was a notable 35 percent who saw Biden’s candidacy as potentially boosting Trump’s likelihood of victory. On the Democratic side, opinions were divided on whether Biden’s chances would be better against Trump or another Republican nominee, further emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding Biden’s candidacy.

As the post-debate poll was conducted in the midst of concerns over Biden’s performance and sinking poll numbers, it is evident that the Democratic Party faces challenges in rallying support behind their nominee. Despite reported efforts by the DNC to bolster confidence in Biden, the survey results reflect a significant segment of the electorate questioning his ability to compete in the upcoming election.
