The cycling world was rocked by controversy last week when two men, who identify as “transgender women,” dominated a women’s cycling event. Tessa Johnson and Evelyn Williamson, both biologically male, snagged the first and second place spots, leaving the biological females in their dust. And this wasn’t the first time these men had triumphed over women in the cycling world. The audacity!

But hold onto your helmets, folks, because the drama doesn’t stop there. Kristen Chalmers, a female cyclist who got a taste of the fumes from Johnson and Williamson’s victory parade, actually defended the men! Can you believe it? Chalmers had the audacity to call the uproar over the men competing against women “ridiculous.” As if it wasn’t a big deal to be shoved off the winner’s podium by guys pretending to be gals! Talk about a slap in the face to women’s sports.
But it gets worse. Chalmers went on to declare that she and her fellow female cyclists fully support transgender athletes competing against them. In a letter soon to be made public, Chalmers and her crew claim that they refuse to be portrayed as victims in this so-called “manufactured controversy.” They argue that including men in women’s sports makes the whole thing stronger. Seriously? Is she serious? This isn’t about inclusion – it’s about fair competition! Anyone can see that.
Thankfully, women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines stepped in to give Chalmers a reality check. Gaines rightly called out Chalmers for applauding her own erasure and surrendering the integrity of fair competition. Gaines made it clear that most female athletes stand against this madness and respect the need for fair play. Chalmers, in Gaines’ eyes, is nothing short of a traitor to ethical and fair sport. And to women everywhere. Someone get this woman a crash course in the true meaning of female empowerment!
It’s high time for the world of sports to get its bearings straight. Let the women compete against women, and the men against men. It’s not rocket science, folks. But until that day comes, we’ll be here, shaking our heads at the absurdity of it all.
