Trump Acts to Restore Honor and Clarity to American History

President Trump has once again proven himself a champion of history and common sense by signing an executive order aimed at restoring clarity and honor to American history through an overhaul of the Smithsonian Institution. This bold directive, aptly named “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” takes a necessary swipe at the Biden administration, which has allowed “corrosive ideology” to creep into our celebrated institutions and twist the narratives that define our heritage.

The order highlights how the Smithsonian, once a venerated institution, has become tainted by divisive, race-centered ideologies. This betrayal of its original purpose has led to the promotion of narratives that tarnish the very fabric of America and distort Western values as harmful and oppressive. Through these actions, Trump makes it clear that it’s time to refocus on elevating American achievements rather than surrendering to a politically charged agenda that seeks to divide.

Vice President JD Vance has been thrust into the role of overseeing the efforts to cleanse the Smithsonian of this unwelcome ideology. With his position on the Board of Regents, Vance is well-suited to restore the institution to its rightful role as a bastion of knowledge and respect for American history. Museums, as Trump emphasizes, should be places of learning and inspiration, not sites of ideological indoctrination or revisionist history that detracts from America’s shared legacy.

One particularly punchy provision of Trump’s order directs the Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, to review any public monuments or memorials that may have been “improperly” removed over the past five years. This move has all the potential to send the left into a frenzy, clutching their pearls as they grapple with the idea that their revisionist historical narrative may not stand unchallenged. The notion that recently altered monuments were part of a campaign to distort history will undoubtedly raise the ire of those who have championed their removal in the name of “progress.”

Of course, the left is already trying to push back, with representatives like Jasmine Crockett lamenting over Trump’s attempts to eliminate references to diversity from both present and past narratives. However, this is rich coming from a party that has not only supported but celebrated the tearing down of statues and calls for the erasure of historical figures like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson from the public sphere. The hypocrisy is glaring.

Trump’s recent actions echo his earlier moves at the Kennedy Center and reflect a broader strategy to reclaim institutions that have been hijacked by radical agendas. For too long, the Smithsonian has flirted with absurdities, like its decision to omit Justice Clarence Thomas from its narratives while instead shining a light on irrelevant historical figures. The institution’s fascination with including transgender identities in the Women’s History Museum further illustrates the need for a return to traditional values and a clear-eyed view of history.

The goal of Trump’s executive order is clear: to make the Smithsonian an institution that ignites the imagination of children, celebrates American history, and serves as a proud symbol of national greatness. With a completion target set for July 4th, 2026—the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence—this initiative underscores a commitment to ensuring that America’s history is celebrated in all its complexities and strengths, rather than being sullied by politically correct reimaginings.
