The headlines are busy spinning tales of Democratic delights, but in a surprising twist, President-elect Donald Trump, fresh off his victory lap, has thrown some unexpected compliments Fetterman’s way. It appears Trump finds Pennsylvania’s Democratic Senator John Fetterman to be “impressive” and “fascinating.” Perhaps this reflects Trump’s ability to engage with figures across the political divide—something that would baffle many a leftist.
However, Fetterman isn’t just basking in the warm glow of Trump’s admiration; he’s also ushering in a hefty $52 million tambourine of infrastructure funding. Coming courtesy of the U.S. Department of Transportation, this cash infusion is a result of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, a legislative achievement that Fetterman claims to support. One can’t help but wonder how many infrastructure projects are actually necessary in a state that boasts some state-of-the-art potholes.

There’s a smorgasbord of projects that this money will address, including upgrades to bridges, roads, and even electric vehicle charging stations. Fetterman promises that these improvements will make Pennsylvanians feel as if they are truly being looked after, regardless of their zip code. So, while Pennsylvania may be getting a financial boost, one must consider if these projects will triumph over the state’s well-known infrastructure woes. After all, if a bridge can collapse, $52 million doesn’t stand much of a chance.
Fetterman’s big announcement coincided neatly with a tête-à-tête at Mar-a-Lago, where the Senator impressed Trump—not just with his stature (let’s be honest, the man does stand out), but presumably with his eagerness to play along with Trump’s sometimes unconventional ideas. Trump’s interest in Fetterman is intriguing, particularly as he labels him a “commonsense person,” which might cause a few eyebrows to raise in the liberal camp. After all, who knew the definition of “commonsense” could stretch all the way to a Democrat?
In yet another jaw-dropper, Fetterman has taken the wild step of defending Trump’s well-known interest in acquiring Greenland. His call for a “responsible conversation” on the matter seems to channel the spirits of previous land-grabbing presidents, hinting at a potential future where socialism’s grip might loosen just a bit. Whether this is boldness or folly remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: Fetterman is making waves in political waters where most Democrats dare not tread.
