In a scathing rebuke, former President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that it would be nothing short of a “tragic mistake” to vote for House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) as Speaker of the House. In a tweet, Trump insisted that Emmer, whom he called a “Globalist RINO,” is out of touch with Republican voters and lacks the backbone to truly support Trump and the Make America Great Again (MAGA) agenda.
Trump didn’t mince words, describing Emmer as someone who “never respected the power of a Trump endorsement” and spent more time defending Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar than supporting the former president. Doubting Emmer’s newfound pro-Trump stance, Trump suggested it may be a mere election ploy rather than genuine conviction. Trump concluded his scathing assessment by warning that the Republican Party should not take the chance of voting for Emmer, as it would be a “tragic mistake.”

Although Emmer has secured the role of House Republican Speaker-designate, his bid has faced fierce opposition from 26 House Republicans who question his suitability for the position. Sources have voiced concerns about Emmer’s weak performance in garnering support and his endorsement of the transgender agenda, which does not align with the views of social conservatives or fervent MAGA supporters.
As these challenges mount, Emmer is facing an uphill battle to secure the Speakership when the vote comes to the House floor. Critics have even suggested holding a national popular vote for the position instead of backing Emmer. It seems that Emmer’s obstacles within his own party are causing doubts about his ability to effectively lead the House Republicans and fulfill their agenda.
