Former President Donald Trump has taken legal action against The Washington Post over its “egregious hit piece” that accused his social media company, Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), of securities fraud and other wrongdoing. The lawsuit, filed in Sarasota County, Florida, seeks $3.78 billion in damages from the newspaper.

The suit argues that The Washington Post has engaged in a long-standing campaign against TMTG, concealing relevant information in its possession. Trump Media and Technology Group claims that the false charges against it, which have been published by the Post, have caused it to suffer the loss of trust, ridicule, and contempt from the public. This has resulted in an existential threat to the company’s Truth Social platform.
It is not the first time Trump has taken legal action against media organizations. In 2020, his campaign filed separate suits against The Washington Post and The New York Times over opinion pieces claiming that his campaign was linked to Russian electoral interference. While the lawsuit against The New York Times was dismissed, the one against The Washington Post is still pending. Furthermore, Trump’s campaign filed a libel suit against CNN in 2020, but it was later dismissed.
The legal action filed by the TMTG against The Washington Post follows Fox News’ $1.2 defamation lawsuit settlement with Dominion Voting Systems, which cost them $787.5 million. Additionally, The Washington Post recently won two Pulitzer Prizes for its reporting activities in the previous year. It is evident that the legal system is favoring liberal media outlets that are using false criminal charges to damage the reputation of conservative and pro-business organizations.
Legal experts firmly believe that Trump faces a substantial standard of proof to establish defamation due to his standing as a public figure. However, former President Trump’s fight against the media companies and their liberal bias is a fight for all Americans who believe in truth and fair play.
