President Trump just made a deal that has conservatives scratching their heads. The government now owns 10% of Intel, one of America’s biggest computer chip companies. This sounds more like something Bernie Sanders would do than our America First president.
Even Senator Rand Paul is calling this move pure socialism. He said the government controlling private companies is exactly what socialism looks like. Paul knows his stuff when it comes to free market principles.
Trump says he plans to make more deals just like this one. That should worry every conservative who believes in limited government. We didn’t vote for Trump to have Washington take over American businesses.
The Intel deal comes from the CHIPS law that Trump himself called corporate welfare. Now he’s using that same law to buy pieces of private companies. Something doesn’t add up here.
China is our real enemy in the tech war, not American companies. We should be cutting regulations and taxes to help Intel compete, not having Uncle Sam become a shareholder. Free markets made America great, not government ownership.
Trump’s heart is in the right place when it comes to beating China. But copying their playbook of government control isn’t the answer. American innovation happens when businesses are free, not when politicians are calling the shots.
Even Fox News host Maria Bartiromo is raising red flags about this deal. When conservative media starts using the word socialism, Republicans better pay attention. This isn’t the Trump way we voted for.
Our movement stands for freedom and limited government, period. Trump needs to remember that government picking winners and losers is what Democrats do. We expect better from our champion of American capitalism.
