Taiwan’s new president, Lai Ching-te, was sworn in as China sent warships and military planes into Taiwan’s vicinity, conducting military drills that simulated a blockade. The U.S. must stand up to protect Taiwan for several reasons, including preventing increased Chinese aggression in the region and safeguarding global economic stability due to Taiwan’s prowess in semiconductor manufacturing. It is crucial for the U.S. to support Taiwan’s sovereignty and democracy in the face of Chinese threats and intimidation.
China’s actions against Taiwan have been escalating, with continuous violations of Taiwanese airspace, cyber-attacks, and economic sanctions. China’s covert strategies, such as political warfare and infiltration of Taiwanese institutions, aim to weaken Taiwan’s defenses and erode public confidence. By bolstering these insidious tactics, China hopes to bring Taiwan under its control without engaging in direct military confrontation. The U.S. and Taiwan must work together to counter China’s manipulative efforts and defend Taiwan’s autonomy.
