A Ukrainian general was found guilty of treason after he collaborated with Russia. The court in Kyiv sentenced Valerii Shaitanov to 12 years in prison, and his property will be seized. The court learned that he shared state secrets with an officer from Russia's Federal Security Service, known as the FSB, who is also known as Elbrus Yegorov.
This case is particularly worrying since Shaitanov was accused of planning to kill a military officer in the Donbas region, who was a volunteer for Ukraine. The region has been engulfed in conflict between Russia and Ukraine since 2014. It is disheartening to see that a high-ranking official would betray their country and go against their comrades.

This isn't the first time that Ukrainian officials collaborated with their Russian counterparts. In the past, Volodymr Zelensky has carried out a series of actions against those who he believed were working with the enemy. He dismissed close friends and accused those opposing him of trying to "de-Russify" Ukraine.
While it’s important to combat corruption and collaborate, it is also worrying that such efforts may go too far, potentially affecting the country's democracy.
The issue of corruption in Ukraine is also worrying, as Americans are questioning how the country is spending the billions of dollars that it has received from the US. After the war, many Ukrainians noted that corruption was a major problem, and almost 90 percent of the population considered it to be a problem.
Due to the allegations of corruption involving US President Joe Biden and his personal ties to Ukraine, some Republican congressmen have called for his impeachment. It's important that the country is held accountable for how it uses the aid it receives from the US.
