Less than an a few hours after he arrived at the southern border, Biden left for his comfortable life in Delaware.
During his visit to El Paso, Texas, Biden pledged to send federal agents to help address the crisis at the border.
Biden met with immigrant rights advocates and went on a walk along the US-Mexico border. He also inspected a border crossing where agents explain how they check for drugs and other contraband.
Although he visited a border crossing, Biden did not visit the facilities where migrants are being held after they crossed into the US. He also avoided going to the area where migrants have been living on the streets.
Several local and county officials, as well as members of Congress, accompanied Biden during his visit. Critics, however, noted that they were only there for a photo opportunity.
Prominent Republican operative Brendan Steinhauser criticized Biden for not visiting the facilities where migrants are being held after they crossed into the US. Instead, he decided to visit the border due to negative media coverage. He said that Biden was told that going to El Paso would look like he was making an effort to address the crisis.
