Biden and Harris Snub Netanyahu Visit Questioning US Commitment to Allies

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the trip to Washington, D.C., expecting a warm welcome and a cordial meeting with American leaders. However, the absence of both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris raises some eyebrows about American leadership and support for its allies. With Biden sidelined due to an alleged case of COVID—it’s worth noting how often health seems to be the excuse for his absence—one has to wonder why Harris was nowhere to be found either. While she may be busy workshopping her presidential campaign, failing to attend a meeting with a key ally speaks volumes.

The absence of Biden is one thing; the absence of Harris during such a significant event smacks of disrespect. Netanyahu’s visit was meant to strengthen ties and discuss important matters. Instead, he was left hanging, which signals a troubling attitude toward U.S. alliances. Harris’s decision to skip presiding over the Senate during the Prime Minister’s speech shows where her priorities lie, suggesting that perhaps she’s too busy plotting her own path to power rather than focusing on urgent diplomatic relations.

Biden’s retreat to Rehoboth Beach may leave the impression that he’s more interested in vacationing than addressing pressing issues on the world stage. Although he is expected to make a return later this week, the lack of communication and public engagements is raising red flags. His disappearance has led many to speculate about what is really going on in the Biden administration. Fresh out of “isolation,” one thing is clear: if there’s a silver lining to all this, it’s that he has at least scheduled a national address to announce his exit from the 2024 race. But considering the circumstances, one can only hope the teleprompter isn’t malfunctioning—again.

Meanwhile, Harris’s apparent decision to prioritize a private meeting with Trump following Netanyahu’s arrival suggests a chaotic blend of personal ambition and indecisiveness in the White House. The optics of this situation indicate that the current administration may not fully grasp the importance of unity when it comes to supporting allies like Israel. Instead of enhancing diplomatic ties, what has emerged is a contradictory display of cluelessness and neglect.

Most distressingly for Democrats, this fiasco comes at a time when they desperately need to show strength and solidarity in foreign relations, especially with Israel. Polls are already showing significant plummet in approval ratings for Harris. As rumors run rampant about the VP’s path to the nomination, one can only speculate how this failed diplomatic moment will further server her case within the party. If the Democrats really want to unite behind a leader, it might be time for them to take a long, hard look in the mirror.

In short, the absence of two key figures from a vital ally’s visit, combined with the administration’s continuous struggle to present a coherent plan for leadership, leaves many Americans questioning who is really in charge. The fallout could be substantial, particularly as the political landscape in the U.S. becomes increasingly tumultuous. With Biden on the verge of stepping down from the presidential race and Harris’s candidacy hanging by a thread, the future of American foreign relations under this administration remains uncertain. Keeping allies close might just be a lesson that Biden and Harris have yet to learn.
