President Joe Biden has managed to dodge the COVID bullet, testing negative and returning to the White House after a prolonged absence. Since July 17, he has been holed up in Delaware, twisting the arms of his calendar into submission—first, to cut short a trip to Las Vegas after testing positive, and then to disappear from public view faster than a clown at a funeral.
During his extended stay away from the spotlight, the only company Biden appeared to have was Dr. Kevin O’Connor, his personal physician, who played the role of the increasingly optimistic narrator in the saga of Biden’s health. According to O’Connor, there were no fevers, and the president’s condition could be described as “normal”—though one might argue that “normal” has taken on a whole new meaning in D.C. lately. The good doctor also reassured the public that Biden’s lungs remained crystal clear, which is more than can be said for the foggy political landscape he’s returning to.

Even in dramatic moments, Biden’s knack for theatrical absences hit a high note when he quietly resigned from his presidential campaign on a Sunday without so much as a social media snapshot to mark the occasion. Instead of a grand exit, he chose to call into a Kamala Harris campaign rally the following day, a move that speaks volumes about priorities in the current administration. Perhaps the thought of stepping in front of cameras felt too much like a game of political roulette, where the odds are forever stacked against him.
As Biden plans to make his triumphant re-entry into the White House, the anticipation could almost be likened to waiting for a Netflix series to get canceled. His grand plans include sticking around to fulfill his presidential duties until January 20, 2025—an impressive feat for someone who seems perfectly capable of disappearing just as quickly as he reappears.
Biden’s physician continues to assure the masses that the president is not only capable of handling his responsibilities but is indeed performing all of his duties. This would make for a wonderful plot twist if only it weren’t reality. So, as the curtains rise and Biden emerges from his hermit existence, one has to wonder—what’s next? Will his future public appearances be filled with the same charisma of a deflated balloon, or will he manage to deliver a performance worthy of a standing ovation? Only time will tell, though the odds seem heavily in favor of the former.
