Former President Donald Trump and his legion of supporters have long maintained that the barrage of criminal indictments against him are nothing more than a politically charged witch hunt, aimed squarely at sidelining him and preventing him from reclaiming the White House. The Democrats and their complicit media allies have repeatedly dismissed such claims, but President Joe Biden recently let the mask slip. In a moment that surely made his political advisers gasp, he suggested the solution to Trump’s rising star is to “lock him up.”
Biden’s comments came during a campaign stop in Concord, New Hampshire, where he was ostensibly promoting lower prescription drug costs. With a crowd of enthusiastic Democrats at his back, Biden veered into familiar territory, lambasting Trump as a dire threat to democracy. It didn’t take long for the political ramifications of Biden’s gaffe to surface. His remark went viral as commentators on the right seized upon the admission like a dog with a bone. The Trump campaign was quick to respond, with spokesperson Karoline Leavitt seizing the opportunity to declare that the Biden administration’s goal has been “to politically persecute their opponent” since day one. In her words, the Harris-Biden administration poses the real threat to democracy, not the former president who appears to be a magnet for all things scandalous.
Biden, who for months has tried to put some distance between himself and the Justice Department’s crusade against Trump, found his efforts in tatters as a result of his slip. As the dust settles from Biden’s verbal fumble, it becomes increasingly challenging for both him and Harris to maintain the facade of neutrality regarding the ongoing efforts to imprison the former president. With Biden’s comments piling on the pressure, it certainly casts a long shadow over the “appeal to fairness” they’ve touted.
