Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez amplified the charge on social media, tweeting that “this year, there have already been 10 reported hangings of Black people in the U.S.” and boasting that she had signed onto Pressley’s demand for a federal probe. That dramatic language lit up the left’s media ecosystem overnight and forced conservatives and independents alike to scrutinize the facts behind the headlines.
Within hours critics — and even crowdsourced fact-checkers — began pointing out that many of the high-profile cases cited had been investigated and ruled suicides by local police and medical examiners, with only a very small number remaining under active homicide review. Major outlets and conservative commentators highlighted those official findings, arguing that broad-brush accusations of “lynching” risked misrepresenting settled local investigations.
Patriotic Americans should be wary when powerful Democrats weaponize racial fear for political gain, especially in the fevered run-up to crucial elections. Rather than calm communities or respect the conclusions of on-the-ground professionals, the spectacle from members of The Squad looks more like opportunism than responsible leadership.
There is a real and honorable role for federal involvement where local inquiries are demonstrably flawed, and families deserve answers when injustices occur; that truth is not the problem. The problem is turning every tragic or ambiguous death into a national panic before facts have been fully vetted, a tactic that erodes trust in local law enforcement and in the institutions that protect the rule of law. Democrats’ demand for a blanket federal audit, while emotionally charged, risks undercutting the careful work done by coroners and local investigators.
Conservative Americans stand for truth, for grieving families, and for institutions that are respected because they follow evidence rather than headlines. We should demand full, impartial investigations where warranted, but we must also call out reckless rhetoric designed to inflame and divide rather than to solve real problems.
If Washington’s loudest voices want to lead, then lead honestly: show the receipts, present the evidence, and stop trading in panic for political points. Hardworking citizens who love this country will always choose facts over fear, law and order over hysteria, and justice grounded in truth over theatrical politics.
