The ugly truth about birth tourism is finally getting daylight, and hardworking Americans should be furious. House Republicans have zeroed in on a booming industry that arranges for foreign nationals to come here expressly to give birth and claim the perks of U.S. citizenship for their children — a practice that undermines our sovereignty and rewards fraud.
Oversight Chairman Rep. James Comer and Rep. Brandon Gill have launched a visa-fraud probe into specific companies marketing “childbirth packages” in states from Florida to California, demanding records and answers about how many clients they serve and how much they charge. Americans who follow the law are right to demand that the same standard apply to anyone seeking to exploit our immigration system for profit and political gain.
The federal government has not been completely blind to the problem: the State Department recently exposed and dismantled international birth-tourism networks, revoking hundreds of visas after embassies uncovered schemes using fraudulent documents and visa fixers. If Democrats weren’t so busy playing politics and shouting “racism” at every enforcement move, more of this common-sense work could proceed without the noise.
Of course, predictably, left-wing voices have labeled Republican efforts to stop this abuse as “racist,” weaponizing identity politics to shield bad actors and illegal schemes. The national debate over birthright citizenship and enforcement has been raw, and mainstream outlets recorded sharp condemnations of efforts to restrict these fraudulent practices as discriminatory.
Comer, appearing on conservative programs to press the point, rightly called out the double standard: Democrats rush to accuse Republicans of prejudice while often overlooking the real victims — American taxpayers, legal immigrants, and communities left to shoulder the costs of mass exploitation. It’s not political theater to demand that visas be used for lawful visits, not as tickets to a taxpayer-funded lifestyle.
Patriots should demand action: prosecute the fraudsters, strip the business model out of existence, and restore integrity to citizenship so it isn’t a commodity sold to the highest bidder. Until Washington stops caving to cynical identity politics and starts enforcing the law, hardworking Americans will keep paying the price — and we should not be silenced by cries of “racism” when we simply ask for fairness, security, and the rule of law.
