Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) returned to Washington after the August recess and wasted no time in calling out the Democrats’ reckless spending habits. With the September 30 deadline to fund the federal government looming, Cornyn took to the Senate floor to wish his Republican colleagues in the House “success” in reining in the Democrats’ spending spree. And boy, do they need some reining in!

Cornyn didn’t hold back in reminding everyone about the “deeply-needed spending cuts” that were supposed to accompany the debt ceiling increase. The House Republicans are now trying to clean up the mess created by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) favorable treatment of President Biden’s runaway inflation-triggering agenda. It’s about time someone put a stop to their spending spree!
But while the House Republicans are busy proposing spending cuts, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) seems more interested in playing shutdown games than doing any real work. Cornyn pointed out that Schumer barely took a break from attacking his GOP counterparts during the August recess. It’s no surprise that Schumer is resorting to political games to distract from his party’s failures.
Cornyn unveiled a floor chart that exposed Schumer’s apparent scheme to jam through a spending bill with only 16 legislative days left. The countdown clock ticking away is just further evidence of Schumer’s plan to create chaos and leverage himself over the final product. It’s a shame that Schumer’s tactics are causing unnecessary drama and hindering progress for the American people.
Of course, Schumer is already trying to shift the blame onto the Republicans in the House for a potential shutdown. It’s a classic move from the Democrat playbook, but thankfully they no longer have total control over the government. With a Republican majority in the House, there’s hope for reining in reckless federal spending and preventing Schumer from jamming through his own agenda.
Cornyn called on Schumer to engage in good faith negotiations and accept his responsibility in funding the government. It’s time for Schumer to stop threatening shutdowns and playing the preemptive blame game. Instead, he should work towards a solution that benefits all Americans, not just his own political agenda.
The House Republicans, led by Speaker McCarthy, have pledged to curb wasteful spending that is raising the prices of everyday essentials. Cornyn expressed his hope that they will succeed in their efforts and pass spending bills that align with their commitment. It’s clear that the American people elected the House Republicans for a reason—to bring some much-needed fiscal responsibility back to Washington.
