The political landscape of the United States is constantly changing, and the 2024 presidential election is no exception. A new poll from WPA Intelligence has revealed that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is leading former President Donald Trump in the Republican primary race for the 2024 presidential election. Although Trump has already declared his candidacy for the 2024 election, DeSantis has yet to do so. However, many believe it is only a matter of time before he makes his announcement, with some reports indicating he is targeting late May or early June for the announcement.

The poll surveyed 1,000 verified GOP primary voters between February 13th and 16th. The results showed that DeSantis had a nine-point lead over Trump, with 40% of the vote compared to Trump’s 31%. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence both received 8%, while former Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) had 5%. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo received 2%, former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan got 1%, and Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) had less than 1%.
Despite this poll, other polls have shown that Trump is still in the lead. A recent Harvard Caps/Harris poll showed that Trump was leading DeSantis by an overwhelming 23 percentage points, 46% to 23%. Real Clear Politics’ poll aggregator also has Trump beating DeSantis on average by 12.8 percentage points, 43.3% to 30.5%. Every poll included in Real Clear Politics’ aggregation has Trump winning, and significantly.
It is difficult to determine why the WPA Intelligence poll differs so much from the other polls, but it is clear that either Trump or DeSantis will be the Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election. DeSantis has been gaining traction in recent months and his popularity continues to rise. He has been praised for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in Florida, as well as his support for law enforcement and his pro-business policies.
Trump’s popularity also remains high among Republicans, as he continues to be a major figure in the party. He has been vocal about his plans for a 2024 run, and he has been pushing for his supporters to stay involved in the political process. It is likely that both Trump and DeSantis will continue to gain support as the election draws closer.
