Head coach Jamey Chadwell and athletic director Ian McCaw expressed their sorrow in a department statement, saying, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes, Tajh Boyd.” The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Boyd, a promising 6-foot-4, 295-pound freshman from Chesapeake, Virginia, was known for his athletic abilities. He had secured two state titles after being heavily recruited from Oscar F. Smith High School.
