America cannot afford to pretend danger isn’t at the doorstep, and U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matt Whitaker made that clear when he told Fox News that Iran’s death threat against President Trump is not some abstract talking point but a real and present danger. Whitaker’s blunt talk reflects what patriots have feared since reports surfaced that Israel shared fresh intelligence pointing to a specific Iranian plot.
This alarming intelligence was serious enough that multiple outlets reported Israel passed new information to Washington indicating Iran had considered a plan to assassinate the president, a revelation first reported by the Wall Street Journal and confirmed by others. That kind of warning from our closest allies is not the time for second-guessing — it is the time for action, tougher security, and gratitude for partners who put America’s safety first.
Make no mistake: the threats coming from Tehran are not mere rhetoric. Recent public displays in Iran, including mass funerals where crowds chanted “Death to America” and carried images targeting our leaders, show an enraged regime and a populace whipped into violence by clerical warlords. When an enemy openly celebrates the idea of killing an American president, responsible leaders do not shriek about political theater — they harden defenses and coordinate with allies.
This is hardly unprecedented. U.S. authorities have previously exposed and prosecuted Iran-linked plots aimed at American leaders, including a conviction earlier this year tied to an alleged assassination conspiracy. Those arrests and convictions underscore a pattern that should make any complacent critic sit up and pay attention.
Yet too many in the establishment and the media rush to downplay or politicize these warnings, sniffing skepticism at intelligence that could save lives. That reflex to undermine and demagogue while our homeland and our commander-in-chief face threats is disgraceful; partisan theater must not come at the cost of national security or the lives of Americans.
Americans should thank Whitaker for speaking plainly and thank Israel for sharing critical intelligence — then demand that our leaders translate warnings into decisive protection. We must keep faith with those who serve, strengthen the Secret Service and allied cooperation, and make clear to Tehran that threats against an American president will be met with overwhelming resolve. Patriots stand united for the safety of our country and our president; anything less is betrayal.
