Kamala Harris Evades Debate Ayseater, Ducks Calls for More Face-Offs

Kamala Harris seems to think she sits on a throne of debate authority as she recently declared that the “debate about the debates is over.” This proclamation can’t help but raise eyebrows, particularly when she hints that Donald Trump might skip the long-planned September 10 showdown on ABC News. Adding to the circus, she turned down JD Vance’s reasonable request for multiple vice-presidential debates, as if she could dictate the terms of engagement like a child controlling a game of dodgeball.

Harris and her running mate Tim Walz have spent the past few months whining about the debates, painting a picture that their opponents are quaking in fear at the thought of facing them. But if this were truly the case, wouldn’t she be eagerly waiting to take the stage? Instead, they’re acting like a pair of deer caught in the headlights, and the self-proclaimed debate leader doesn’t seem particularly confident in her own rhetoric.

One has to wonder who gave Harris the keys to the debate kingdom. It’s as if she thinks she can single-handedly redefine the rules of political engagement with a wave of her hand. An inquisitive press, if it actually existed, would hound her for her previous boasts about debate readiness. The standard is usually three presidential debates, focusing on the pressing issues facing the country today. Yet this status quo doesn’t seem to apply to the Harris-Walz duo. With her less-than-stellar record of not winning any primary votes, calling the shots is simply her entitlement in action.

Tim Walz’s continuing claims about JD Vance being scared to debate smell of desperation. When Vance steps up and says he’s ready for multiple face-offs, suddenly Walz is singing a different tune, showing that his bravado was just that: bravado with no real substance behind it. Interestingly, both candidates have opted for what can only be called a quasi-basement strategy. They throw the occasional campaign event, but so far, neither has demonstrated the spine to tackle challenging questions or hold a press conference—so there’s a limit to their courage in the face of real scrutiny.

As the clock ticks down to the first debate, it’s clear that Harris and Walz are more afraid than they’d like to admit. The debates that are scheduled will air on platforms favorable to the Harris campaign, which raises the question: Why would Trump show up to a friendly set if Harris herself won’t agree to a traditional debate setting, like Fox News? The unfortunate truth is that Republican candidates find themselves straying into an unfair game, where the media is more concerned with keeping Democrats in power than with honest journalism. And as long as Harris keeps dodging real challenges, the burden sits squarely on Trump to navigate a landscape rigged against him.
