Despite the event taking place in Detroit, where Harris attempted to sound more relatable to her audience, the results were anything but convincing. In both instances, audiences were quick to pick up on the jarring shifts in her speech patterns, which made it clear that this was less about genuine conversation and more about political theatrics.
The Vice President’s critics include former President Donald Trump, who has pointed out her tendency to play to the crowd in a way that feels disingenuous. This merger of identity and performance raises questions about her own authenticity. After all, it seems quite typical for politicians, especially those on the left, to mold their identities based on what they think the audience wants to hear.
In a related exchange, reporters pressed White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre about Harris’s accent antics. Naturally, her response was to dismiss the inquiry, asserting that Americans truly care about pressing issues like the economy and healthcare.
