Left-wing groups attack Elon Musk over Ron DeSantis announcement on Twitter

Over 60 left-wing groups have urged advertisers to remove their ads from the social media platform Twitter due to the platform's support for Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida. They claimed that Musk had promoted right-wing extremism and accepted the authoritarian views of DeSantis.

A group calling itself the Stop Toxic Twitter Coalition criticized Tucker Carlson, the creator of the Daily Caller, for his new show on Twitter.

According to Nicole Gill, Accountable Tech's Co-founder, Elon Musk has turned Twitter into a "hellscape" of conspiracy and hate. His embrace of Ron DeSantis, who is running for governor of Florida, is a new low for him. It came after Tucker Carlson said he would be bringing his Fox News show back to Twitter.

Many activists criticized the use of Twitter by Musk, who they accused of promoting hate and bigotry. They noted that he had allowed right-wing talk show host Tucker Carlson and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to appear on his platform. Nora Benavidez of Free Press Action claimed that Musk was engaging in a form of discrimination and bigotry by allowing these individuals to appear on his platform.

Some of the groups that joined the coalition included the NAACP, MediaJustice, and Muslim Advocates. Left-wing groups have also pressured companies to stop advertising on Twitter since Musk took over the platform. Pierre Omidyar, the founder of Accountable Tech, and other dark money organizations have funded various activist groups that are targeting him.

As Twitter's new CEO, Linda Yaccarino has a background in advertising. She used to work for NBC Universal, where she oversaw the company's $13 billion annual revenue. Despite her impressive track record in the field, left-wing groups' pressure on the platform will only serve to harm it.
