Those pieces seized on private letters and selective quotes to paint Harp as something she is not, whipping up insinuation instead of sober reporting. The resurfaced notes where Harp expressed deep personal loyalty were treated as proof of corruption rather than plain human devotion between an employee and the man she serves.
Reporters also highlighted procedural questions — like whether Harp held certain clearances while on duty — and inflated routine administrative matters into a narrative of impropriety. These bureaucratic oxygen-sucking stories make for headlines but offer no evidence of wrongdoing; they’re a hit job dressed up as oversight.

Whatever you think of the president’s style, staff who keep him informed are doing the work the American people elected him to do, and partisan scoffing won’t change that.
