A federal judicial nominee, Adeel Mangi, hasn’t been having the smoothest ride as he heads toward a spot on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. This nominee is in hot water for his connections to an anti-Israel think tank and a group that seeks to free folks who have killed police officers. Oh boy, it’s quite the pickle!
The White House is standing firmly behind Mangi, despite a growing chorus of criticism from Republican lawmakers. Even some Democrats are starting to squirm in their seats over this controversial pick. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), a former bigwig at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, recently voiced her opposition to Mangi’s nomination. She’s especially uneasy about his involvement with the Alliance of Families for Justice, which has some pretty radical anti-police stances. If all Republican senators and Cortez Masto oppose Mangi, then he’ll need every single remaining Democrat to back him up. And hey, if things get really dicey, Vice President Kamala Harris might have to swoop in and break a tie.

But it’s not just the Republicans and a few Democrats raising their eyebrows at this guy. There’s the matter of another event involving Mangi—this time, his gig at the National Association of Muslim Lawyers conference in 2022. That event had some questionable characters who openly support Palestinian terrorists. Oopsie daisy! Mangi sent a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee after facing heat over his involvement in this event, acknowledging the oversight and expressing his regret. Tsk tsk, it looks like Mangi’s got a bit of explaining to do.
And let’s not forget about the hubbub over Mangi’s ties to the anti-Israel Rutgers center. Some folks are crying “Islamophobia” in response to the scrutiny. Well, well, well, here come the accusations of a smear campaign from the left. They’re pointing fingers at Republicans and conservative groups for trying to paint Mangi as an “antisemitic terrorist sympathizer.” Golly, gee, it’s turning into quite the blame game!
Despite all the storm clouds hanging over Mangi’s nomination, the White House is still waving their pom-poms and cheering him on. They’re telling every Democrat in the Senate to stand by Mr. Mangi and not let the “hateful forces” hold America back. Oh boy, it seems like this bumpy ride is far from over!
