After weeks of testimony and seven days of deliberations, jurors reported they were hopelessly deadlocked and the judge formally ended the trial without a verdict.
Clancy has acknowledged the killings of her children — Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, 8 months — but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, with defense experts arguing postpartum psychosis left her unable to tell right from wrong. Prosecutors countered that the evidence showed planning and deliberate acts, and that accountability must follow when three innocent lives are taken.
On Sean Hannity’s program, Endeavor PAC founder Tiffany Smiley stood squarely with the victims and told viewers there is no excuse for the massacre, echoing a rising conservative chorus demanding responsibility over convenient narratives. Smiley and Fox contributors debated the line between genuine mental-illness compassion and the disturbing trend of excusing violent acts against children.
Americans who cherish life and law-and-order should be blunt: sympathy for mental illness does not equate to absolution for murder. Too many on the left rush to romanticize pathology while treating victims as collateral damage in an ideological exercise, and that bias is both morally bankrupt and dangerous for public safety. The spectacle of cheering or rationalizing such violence must be rejected by decent people everywhere.
Now the decision falls to the Plymouth district attorney, who must determine whether to retry Clancy on three counts of first-degree murder, pursue lesser charges, or seek a judge trial after negotiations; any of those paths will be scrutinized by voters long after the headlines fade. Families bereft of closure deserve a system that seeks finality, not endless procedural limbo, and prosecutors must be judged on whether they pursue justice rather than political optics.
We should also demand reform of mental-health care that actually protects children and supports families without becoming a cover for the most horrific crimes. That means better screening, stricter accountability for providers, and clear standards so that claims of psychosis are not weaponized to erase responsibility for violent acts. A country that values life must insist on both compassion for the ill and ironclad consequences when the innocent are slaughtered.
This mistrial must be a wake-up call for patriots who prize law, family, and personal responsibility: speak up at town halls, hold elected prosecutors accountable, and refuse to let a culture of excuses erode the very foundations of civilized life. The victims’ names must not be reduced to talking points; their memory demands justice, not explanations that let perpetrators slip through the cracks.
