As Americans solemnly marked the 25th anniversary of September 11, Rep. Mike Lawler reminded viewers on Life, Liberty & Levin that the wounds in his New York district never fully closed and that survivors and first responders still live with the consequences every day. His appearance was a stark reminder that patriotism and remembrance matter in the halls of Congress — and that those who mock or excuse the worst days in our history should have no platform in mainstream politics.
Lawler didn’t mince words when he turned to the latest controversy: far-left streamer Hasan Piker, whom many on the right accurately call a provocateur and who, Lawler argued, has no place near respectable political discourse. Conservatives should be grateful a sitting congressman is willing to call out the fringe and put the safety and dignity of 9/11 victims and Jewish Americans ahead of woke clout-chasing.
This isn’t scandal-mongering — Hasan Piker’s record of incendiary comments is well-documented, including past statements that shocked the nation by suggesting America “deserved” the 9/11 attacks and other remarks that have provoked bipartisan condemnation. When influencers celebrate or rationalize violence, they don’t expand debate; they normalize hate, and that is dangerous to a free society that prizes law and order.
What should terrify every independent voter is how some Democrats have flirted with, or at least tolerated, Piker’s presence on the campaign trail — a sign the party’s leaders are more interested in clicks and fringe energy than in governing responsibly. That embrace of a shock-jock who traffics in anti-American and antisemitic tropes is exactly why Democrats keep losing serious voters who want common-sense leadership, not publicity stunts.
Conservatives rightly demand accountability, and Rep. Lawler’s push — joined by a growing chorus on both sides of the aisle — to force a public reckoning with Piker’s rhetoric is the right move. Voters deserve to know whether candidates and party leaders stand with American victims and allies, or whether they’ll cozy up to extremist mouthpieces for a few viral moments.
This fight is about more than one streamer; it’s about whether Washington will defend the memory of our fallen and the safety of American communities, or whether it will normalize people who cheer on hatred. Lawler’s bluntness is a model for conservatives: call out the lunacy, stand with victims, and refuse to let the left normalize rhetoric that endangers citizens.
Patriots in the suburbs, small towns, and cities should heed this moment and hold elected officials to account this November. If Democrats won’t repudiate the extremists in their orbit, voters must do the job for them and elect leaders who will put America first, remember its heroes, and keep dangerous voices off the public payroll.
