Fox News embedded with ICE agents in Los Angeles and witnessed the arrest of Ernesto Alejandro Perez-Garcia on the Redondo Beach esplanade after authorities say he illegally re-entered the country multiple times. The scene was a textbook example of federal officers doing their job while local policies and practices left the public exposed.
Perez-Garcia initially lied about his identity when confronted by agents, but admitted who he was after being shown a mugshot and even blamed alcoholism for getting him “back in this mess.” This is not sympathy fodder for soft-on-crime advocates; it is evidence that repeated arrests and removals followed by re-entry create a revolving door for offenders.
Records reported by ICE show a long criminal history, including convictions for threatening a crime with intent to terrorize in 2006, and multiple arrests for driving- and alcohol-related offenses stretching back decades. That history, followed by multiple returns to the United States, underscores a policy failure at both the border and in communities that refuse to enforce detainers.
Worse still, local authorities in Redondo Beach reportedly declined to honor ICE detainers on at least two occasions, allowing a known repeat offender to remain free in the community. Los Angeles Field Office Director Tom Giles warned that when detainers are ignored it forces ICE to put officers and the public at risk trying to find and apprehend these individuals. Sanctuary-minded officials who refuse to cooperate are playing political games with public safety.
This incident is not an isolated headline; it is a symptom of soft-on-immigration policies that empower criminals and punish law-abiding citizens. If cities and counties continue to prioritize ideological posturing over cooperation with federal law enforcement, hardworking Americans will keep paying the price in crime, fear, and eroded trust in the system.
