President Joe Biden, apparently still navigating those cue cards, is set to deliver his thoughts after the Supreme Court decided to pump the brakes on what many conservatives saw as a political witch hunt aimed at former President Donald Trump. On Monday, in a decisive 6-3 ruling, the justices reaffirmed that presidents are entitled to “absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for actions within the conclusive and preclusive scope of their constitutional authority.” They threw in some “presumptive immunity” for all official acts to sweeten the deal. However, the Court made it clear there’s no free pass for unofficial hanky-panky.
This ruling is a massive win for Trump, as it essentially knocks the wind out of special counsel Jack Smith’s overhyped Jan. 6 case against the former president. Democrats are, predictably, tripping over themselves to gnash their teeth and wail about this monumental decision. Even Biden, who is used to riding the coattails of hyper-partisan narratives, seems poised to join the melodramatic chorus.

The left’s reaction to this Supreme Court decision underscores their unwavering commitment to the “Get Trump” agenda, even when the highest court of the land speaks otherwise. It’s more than a little ironic, considering how they often tout the importance of judicial independence – but only when the gavel swings in their favor. They’d rather forget that the Constitution shields presidents from politically motivated legal attacks, something that’s unequivocally reaffirmed by this ruling.
As Trump chalks up another win, one has to wonder how many more times the Democrats will attempt – and fail – to knock him down using the judicial system. Maybe it’s time they refocus their energy on more pressing issues, like, say, the skyrocketing crime rates in their highly taxed, poorly run cities.
In the final round, the Supreme Court’s decision is a firm reminder: the Constitution remains a formidable defense against those who wish to rewrite it in the image of their political vendettas. The Democrats would do well to remember that.
