Conservative leaders from Texas have commended the University of Texas at Austin and Governor Greg Abbott for taking decisive action to shut down a pro-Palestinian protest on campus. The successful effort to enforce order and maintain peace amidst the demonstration received praise from several Republican officials and supporters in the state.
State Representative Beth Van Duyne expressed her support for the actions taken, emphasizing the state’s firm stance against the protest. Craig Goldman echoed his approval and called for authorities in New York to take note of UT Austin’s approach. Additionally, Representative Chip Roy, whose district includes the outskirts of Austin, lauded UT Austin President Hartzell for managing the situation effectively.
Brendan Steinhauser, a prominent GOP political consultant in Texas, highlighted the significance of standing up against what he referred to as the “antisemitic radical left,” indicating that the outcome of such actions would be revealed in due time.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, fifty individuals were arrested out of the hundreds of protesters involved in the demonstration. The department reported that the swift intervention of hundreds of state troopers helped prevent the situation from escalating out of control on a campus with a substantial student population.
The law enforcement’s prompt response was praised by Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, who expressed gratitude to the Texas Department of Public Safety and Austin Police for their commitment to maintaining safety during the protest. The police presence continued as protesters regrouped for a second day, with state and local law enforcement collaborating to ensure order on campus.
