The Attorney General of New York Is Suing Trump and His Adult Children For Fraud

New York's attorney general sued Donald Trump and his adult children for fraud on Wednesday, court documents indicate. The attorney general has been investigating Trump's business activities for more than three years.

The complaint accuses the Trump Organization of "numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentation" in creating Trump's yearly financial statements from 2011 through 2021. The Trump Organization, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump were also mentioned.

Attorney General Letitia James is investigating whether the Trump Organization misstated property valuations to get loans and tax breaks. James was scheduled to speak at 11:30 a.m. (1530 GMT). She claimed the probe found "significant evidence" that Trump and the corporation falsely valued assets.

The former Republican president denies wrongdoing and calls James' inquiry a witch hunt. Democrat James. James' charges have been termed "baseless"

James accused Trump, his firm, and family members of adopting delay tactics to disregard subpoenas and avoid testifying.

Trump invoked his privilege against self-incrimination more than 400 times in a closed-door deposition on Aug. 10.

Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump only consented to depositions when ordered. Eric Trump asserted his privilege to self-incrimination 500 times in a 2020 deposition.The case is one of Trump's heaviest legal strikes since 2021. Trump may run in 2024.

The FBI searched Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Aug. 8 as part of a criminal investigation into his handling of confidential documents.

Trump's attempts to change the 2020 election results are also under scrutiny in Georgia.

In several inquiries, he's denied misconduct.

Alvin Bragg, Manhattan's district attorney, is investigating the Trump Organization for tax evasion.In October, the business will face trial for off-the-books staff perks. Allen Weisselberg, its former CFO, pled guilty and will testify against it.

James aids Bragg's criminal investigation.
