His trip to the country comes after the leaders of South Korea, Japan, and the US expressed their concerns about China's aggressive behavior in the South China Sea at Camp David. A joint statement was then released following the summit, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability within the Taiwan Strait.
President Biden will be in Vietnam to discuss ways to strengthen the relationship between the US and the country. He will also hold talks with other key leaders. The two nations have been working to improve their relations, especially in areas where they can potentially challenge China's dominance, such as the production of rare earths. Vietnam has made significant progress in refining technologies and is now the world's sixth-biggest producer of the element.
This is significant since rare earth elements are used in cutting-edge industries and China's monopoly in this sector has raised concerns. To address this issue, Vietnam and South Korea signed an agreement to establish a supply network for rare earths. The two countries are also developing a stronger relationship with each other, which has contributed to Vietnam's desire to become more independent from China.
Even though China and Vietnam share a border, they have not had any territorial disputes within the South China Sea. Despite this, the two countries are still willing to work together with other nations to counter the influence of the CCP. According to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, Vietnam views the US as a vital ally and military force against China.
The visit by President Biden to Vietnam will be a significant step in the development of the two nations' relations and a unified front against China's growing influence. As a country that can potentially challenge China' s dominance in various strategic sectors, such as the production and utilization of rare earths, it is clear that Vietnam is steadily distancing itself from the Chinese influence.
