VA Revolution: Collins Puts Veterans Before Bureaucrats

America doesn’t get to celebrate another year of liberty without remembering the men and women who bled for it, and Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins made that plain during his recent Newsmax appearance where he reminded viewers that our freedoms have a price. Collins has repeatedly put the VA on notice: this department exists for veterans, not for the comfort of Washington bureaucrats.

For too long the VA was a monument to red tape and excuses, and Collins has been blunt about changing that culture, telling Newsmax that the agency is finally focused on veterans first and delivering the benefits they earned. The results he touted — dramatic reductions in the disability claims backlog — are proof that conservative leadership and accountability actually produce results for servicemen and women.

Talk is cheap in politics, but money on the ground matters, and under Collins the VA announced the largest single-year investment in healthcare upgrades in its history, a $4.8 billion commitment to modernize facilities and improve care. That’s real stewardship of taxpayers’ dollars and real respect for veterans — not the hollow gestures we’ve seen from the left.

Collins is also going after waste and bad deals, reclaiming misused land and slashing bloated contracts at major VA sites so properties like West Los Angeles can finally be used to house and serve homeless veterans. This is the kind of common-sense reform conservative Americans expected when they demanded accountability from federal agencies.

And he’s not stopping at infrastructure — Collins has cut red tape in healthcare access too, allowing women veterans direct scheduling for gynecology appointments and removing barriers that once delayed care. Those are practical, pro-veteran changes that put dignity and service back at the center of the VA’s mission.

There are plenty of critics who prefer the comfortable status quo of an unaccountable bureaucracy, but hardworking Americans and our veterans deserve better — and Doug Collins is delivering. If patriots across the country want true honor for our heroes, we should applaud this fight, support these reforms, and demand that every elected official remember whose birthday cake we celebrate before blowing out the candles.
