Last week, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced that she would ban open and concealed carry of firearms in the state's two counties. This is another example of how a power-hungry governor is trying to take away the Second Amendment rights of citizens.
Republican legislators in the state are considering impeaching the governor due to her unconstitutional gun ban. Even though Democrats hold a majority in the legislature, they can't support her ridiculous order. It looks like the governor's support is dwindling.
Ral Torrez, the attorney general of New Mexico, and John Allen, the sheriff of Bernalillo County, are refusing to defend the governor's executive order. Tim Keller, the mayor of Albuquerque, also stated that the police department would not be enforcing the ban. It's clear that the governor overstepped her authority.
Other Democrats and the American Civil Liberties Union are also turning against the governor, who is clearly alienating a lot of people due to her power grab.
Jonathan Turley, a law professor at the University of New Mexico, stated that the executive order is unconstitutional and that it will not be able to withstand legal challenge. He claims that the governor tried to set a 30-day deadline to avoid a final ruling on the issue. It's a sneaky move, and the challengers will make it known that this matter will not be forgotten.
Although she may believe that she can get away with taking away people's rights, Grisham is wrong. Due to her actions, several lawsuits have been filed against the governor. Republican legislators in the state claim that she violated the constitutions of New Mexico and the federal government.
The fact is that, unlike other governors, Grisham is not eligible to run for re-election next year. So what's her endgame? Some believe that she's trying to get in touch with Joe Biden in 2024 in order to secure a position in his cabinet. This is a clear attempt at political gain, and Biden would benefit from distancing himself from Grisham.
She knows that she is in for a tough time, and she's taking a swipe at the state legislators who are leading the impeachment effort against her. These officials are clearly on the money, and her days are numbered.
Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, called for the governor's removal. He noted that she had gone too far in her actions. Leaders should respect people's rights.
In New Mexico, we are still fighting. We won't stand for anyone to infringe on our rights. Impeachment will send a strong message to those who try to undermine the US Constitution.
