Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent announcement to sever ties with Walgreens has drawn criticism from pro-life groups and Republican attorneys general. The decision was made in response to Walgreens’ refusal to distribute abortion-inducing drugs in multiple states led by Republicans. The move by Governor Newsom came after a letter from nearly 20 Republican attorneys general in February threatened legal action against Walgreens Executive Vice President Danielle Gray if the company decided to distribute the abortion drug mifepristone in their respective states.

Newsom’s announcement is yet another example of the Democratic Party’s extreme pro-abortion agenda, and their willingness to use any means necessary to push it forward. By refusing to do business with Walgreens, Newsom is sending a clear message that he will not tolerate any company that stands in the way of his radical agenda.

In January, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted approval for the sale of a certain drug. However, some states moved to prevent its distribution, leading the drug’s manufacturer, GenBioPro, to file a lawsuit. Walgreens, on the other hand, has responded to several state officials, including Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach, informing them that the drug will not be made available in their respective states. Similar confirmations have been sent to other states, including Alabama, Missouri, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, and Texas, that were named in the February letter.
Thirteen pro-life organizations, including the Family Research Council (FRC), wrote a letter to Walgreens highlighting the potential legal repercussions of providing the abortion drug. The groups pointed out that women who consume the drug may suffer serious harm or even death. Additionally, they expressed concerns that the distribution of chemical abortion prescriptions could have an adverse impact on the company’s reputation.
The actions of Newsom and other left-leaning Democrats demonstrate a willingness to prioritize their radical agenda over the safety of women, which is concerning. This decision made by Newsom is viewed as an insult by conservatives and those who advocate for protecting life, as they believe every stage of life should be safeguarded. This serves as a reminder of how far the Democratic Party has moved away from its founding principles and the extent they will go to promote their radical beliefs.
